The subject that intimidates most and rewards best when taught right.
IB Physics has a reputation. Students fear it, underestimate it, and frequently arrive at Year 12 without any idea of what they are walking into. However, it is also one of the most valuable qualifications a student can possess which is a direct link to Medicine, Engineering, Architecture and the Physical Sciences at prestigious universities all over the world. The difference between a student who struggles through IB Physics and one who excels is not about IQ but about the quality of the support being given to the student. That is exactly where Amourion as an Institute and Dr Anil Khare can change everything.
Why do strong students suddenly hit a wall with IB Physics?
Dr Anil Khare: IB Physics requires something that most schools rarely teach and this is the ability to connect mathematical rigour with physical intuition at the same time. A student can be good in Math and still find IB Physics challenging, because understanding why an equation behaves the way it does in a physical system is a completely different skill from simply applying it. At Higher Level, topics such as wave phenomena, electromagnetic induction and quantum physics require to be constructed conceptually & understood over a certain number of months. In the absence of expert guidance from Dr Anil Khare at Amourion, these layers collapse as well as grades.
What specific improvements do students see after starting IB Physics tutoring with Amourion?
Dr Anil Khare: The changes observed are consistent and measurable. Pupils' results in Paper 1, the multiple-choice paper where conceptual clarity is required the most are improved as well as their written responses in Paper 2 and ultimately Internal Assessment marks are improved significantly as well. In addition to grades, students report a growth in confidence and so physics stops feeling like a foreign language and starts making sense as a coherent system of ideas. All three assessment components are covered in all Amourion programmes ensuring that no part of the student's grade is left to chance.
How does Dr Anil Khare approach the IB Physics Internal Assessment differently?
Dr Anil Khare: Most IB Physics students lose marks that they shouldn't lose in the Internal Assessment. The common error is to think that the IA is a simple write up for a science experiment when it is not. The IB IA is rigorously assessed against specific criteria covering exploration, analysis, evaluation, and communication. From the very start, at Amourion we guide students to pick a research question that is truly "investigable," help them create a valid experiment, and to produce a report that addresses what examiners are looking for. The difference in scores between guided and unguided IA work is frequently remarkable.
Is there a meaningful difference between HL and SL IB Physics tutoring — and should that change how I choose a tutor?
Dr Anil Khare: Enormously and much larger than most people realise. IB Physics HL covers additional topics including wave phenomena, fields, electromagnetic induction, and quantum and nuclear physics that SL students do not cover. HL is much more demanding mathematically, including multi-step quantitative reasoning and derivations which require a genuine depth of knowledge. Amourion tailors every learning session to the student's specific level from day one until the final examination day.
At what point in the IB course does tutoring have the greatest impact on final grades?
Dr Anil Khare: The earlier the better, but never too late. Students who begin with Amourion in Year 12 build strong conceptual foundations that compound over two years. Those who join us in Year 13 benefit from our tutor's ability to rapidly consolidate gaps and sharpen exam technique under pressure. Every stage of the IB Physics course has a leverage point and Dr Anil Khare knows precisely where to find it, regardless of when a student steps through the door.
IB Physics doesn't have to be the subject your child dreads. With Amourion and Dr Anil Khare, it can become the subject that defines their future
