Bluewaters Island was launched to residents in 2018 as one of Dubai's most distinctive residential destinations. Developed by Meraas on a purpose-built island just off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence, it was designed as a premium leisure & residential destination centered around Ain Dubai which is the world's largest observation wheel. What has since developed is a compact, cosmopolitan community of internationally mobile professional families positioned within sight of the city's skyline & within close proximity to some of Dubai's most competitive British curriculum schools. Where academically ambitious families settle, high-stakes examinations follow & for the students on Bluewaters Island, AS & A Level Business Studies is often the qualification at the centre of that ambition.
A Level Business is the qualification that opens pathways to Business Administration, Economics, Management, Finance, Marketing & Law at universities across the UK, the US, Australia & beyond. It rewards analytical thinking, structured argument & the ability to evaluate competing viewpoints & these are skills that are considerably more demanding to develop than most students initially expect. At Dr Anil Khare powered by Amourion, we have delivered specialist AS & A Level Business Studies tuition for over twenty years across Dubai. Our Jumeirah Lakes Towers centre is reacheable from Bluewaters Island in under fifteen minutes & our online sessions deliver the same standard directly to students at home.
Why AS & A Level Business demands more than classroom teaching alone
A Level Business Studies is not a subject that rewards description. Examiners for both Edexcel & Cambridge allocate marks primarily for evaluation & the ability to weigh competing arguments, reach a justified conclusion & communicate that reasoning concisely under timed conditions. A student who simply describes what a business strategy involves will remain in the lower mark bands whereas a student who analyses its likely effectiveness within a specific business context & evaluates the conditions under which it may or may not succeed will score in the upper bands. This gap is far more significant than most students initially realise.
The case study component introduces an additional layer of skill. Both syllabuses present students with pre-released or unseen business situations & expect answers to be firmly rooted in the specifics of that context rather than generic theory. A student who applies textbook frameworks without explicit reference to the business in the question will lose the application marks deliberately built into the mark scheme. Learning to read a case study purposefully, extract the relevant contextual detail & integrate it into a structured analytical response is a trainable skill & it lies at the core of our sessions.

Questions Blue waters Island parents ask us
My child writes long answers in Business but still scores in the lower mark bands. What is going wrong?
Dr Anil Khare: Length does not equate to quality & in A Level Business this distinction is particularly important. The mark scheme allocates marks across levels with knowledge, application, analysis & evaluation so a lengthy answer that remains at the knowledge or application stage will earn marks only from the lower bands regardless of how much is written. The student who achieves the highest marks are those who progress through the full mark-scheme hierarchy within a single response: introducing a relevant point, applying it directly to the business context, developing a clear analytical chain of reasoning & then evaluating its validity within that specific scenario. We teach this structure explicitly in every session. Once students understand what each band requires & how to move between them within a single paragraph, their performance improves consistently & measurably.
Business Studies seems like common sense. Why does my child need specialist tuition for it?
Dr Anil Khare: This is the most widespread misconception about A Level Business & it consistently costs students marks they should not be losing. The content of A Level Business is accessible in the sense that it often aligns with everyday reasoning, students can understand it when it is explained. The examination, however, does not reward passive understanding. It rewards the ability to construct well-developed responses independently, under timed conditions, rooted in a specific business context & expressed using the precise terminology the mark scheme requires. A student who relies on intuition & general awareness in the exam will consistently underperform compared to one who has developed the analytical & evaluative habits that A Level Business examiners expect. The subject rewards structured disciplined thinking, rather than surface familiarity with business ideas & that mode of thinking must be deliberately trained.
The quantitative parts of A Level Business — financial ratios, break-even, investment appraisal — are tripping my child up. Can you help with those specifically?
Dr Anil Khare: Yes & this is one of the most accessible areas of A Level Business to improve with focused support. The quantitative elements are mainly procedural & once a student understands what each calculation shows & why it is used, accurate implementation follows. The challenge stems from one of two sources either the student has not been shown the calculation process well so as to reproduce it by themselves, or they can do the calculations but fail to interpret the result within the framework of the business situation presented. We address both. We develop calculation fluency through structured practice & we build interpretative skill by working through past paper data response questions where the numerical results must be linked to informed business judgement. The quantitative components of A Level Business papers are among the most reliable sources of recoverable marks for students who have not yet approached them strategically.
My child is taking both A Level Business and A Level Economics. There seems to be overlap. Can you support both?
Dr Anil Khare: Yes, & the overlap between the two subjects is both real & highly beneficial when it is made explicit. Concepts such as market structures, price elasticity, opportunity cost, demand & supply & the behavior of firms appear in both syllabuses but they are approached from different perspectives & assessed through distinct question types. Economics emphasizes theoretical precision & model-based reasoning; Business focuses on contextual application & strategic evaluation. A student studying both subjects simultaneously with a clear understanding of how they interrelate, is able to produce more nuanced & accurate responses in each. We develop these cross-subject connections deliberately in our sessions, allowing progress in one subject to reinforce the other. We also coordinate session schedules for students taking both, minimizing duplication & maximizing overall efficiency.
