My child is strong in Pure Mathematics but their grade drops significantly on the Statistics paper. Is this a content issue or something else?
Dr Anil Khare: In most cases, the difficulty lies not in a lack of content knowledge or mathematical ability but in modelling. Statistics questions rarely present a ready-made method the way Pure questions often do. Instead, the student must first interpret the scenario, identify the type of statistical problem, select the appropriate distribution or test & establish the correct framework before carrying out any calculations. Students who perform well in pure mathematics are often used to recognizing a question type & applying a known procedure. Statistics however requires an additional interpretive step that must be developed explicitly. We focus on that exact skill: careful reading, accurate problem classification & a structured setup before any calculation begins.
My child's A Level examinations are in eight weeks. Is starting tuition now still worthwhile?
Dr Anil Khare: Absolutely & the approach we take changes precisely to match the time available. With eight weeks remaining, we move directly to past paper performance rather than content review. We identify the question types across Papers 1, 2 and 3 where the student is currently dropping the most marks, rank them by the number of marks recoverable in the time remaining and concentrate effort there. Eight weeks of focused, targeted preparation working on the right things rather than everything can move a grade significantly. We are transparent with every family about what is realistic within the available timeline, and we build the most effective plan for that window.
